John 15:12 Ministries has a heart for those who are homeless, living in poverty and/or are poor in spirit. One of the things we do is deliver necessities such as wood, water, food, coats, blankets, shoes, toiletries, and most importantly, unconditional love. Our focus is primarily on those that are not "in the system" or who do not "qualify" for help. Amazingly they are everywhere, not just in homeless shelters, but along the river, under the bridges, in abandoned buildings, in cars, some just wander the streets searching for warmth, food, acceptance and understanding.
The delivery of these necessities is meant mostly as a way to develop personal, trusting relationships, and show those in need what unconditional love looks like. We show them nonjudgmental acceptance and caring. We do not go out and preach at them, telling them what they need to do to be "saved". Our goal is to love them into a relationship with Jesus. We do not force ‘church’ on them, but for those that want to attend, we will provide transportation and encouragement. For those that want to get off the streets, we help with referrals to shelters or to agencies that can get them into housing, for those who are addicts and/or alcoholics, we take them to recovery meetings, rehabilitation programs and prepare them for life. Some are veterans and we get them involved with the Veteran's Administration and any other programs they are eligible for. We have recently attained a small bus so we have the ability to transport many folks from their camp or home to church, appointments, and other functions.
We have several ministries which include Refuge Coffee Bar, Proverbs Women's Ministry, and Community Clean up.
Refuge Coffee Bar is located at 5010 Glenway Avenue in Cincinnati. This is a coffee bar that operates with ministry in mind. All money raised above the operating costs are returned back to the community to improve the life of those who live there. The Refuge is there to develop relationships with our community in a loving caring environment. It has been said by some of the folks that benefit from John 15:12 and Refuge that our organizations saved their lives.
Proverbs Women's Ministry is located at 901 Elm Street in Cincinnati. This ministry operates every Saturday from 12:30pm to 4:00pm. which is in place to love the women of downtown Cincinnati, those who are in abusive relationships, who are weary from everyday struggles, and who feel hopeless and helpless. We want to provide a warm, friendly, caring atmosphere for these lovely women. We will feed them, listen to them, pray with them, and love them into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Community Clean up is a program which comes along side Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and Cincinnati Police Department to clean up blighted property. Studies have shown that when a community is cared for the crime and drug activity decline. We have done two clean ups already in North Farimont and will keep you posted of any upcoming events.
Another important goal of the ministry is to educate the public and humanize those that are so easily dismissed. We will have stories on this website from those we have built relationships with. Each of them has a story, and we want to provide a way for them to tell it.
